Headache/Migraines

“I have suffered from chronic migraines for the last 20 years. I used to have 3 or 4 migraines per week. After I started seeing Laura last year and she started doing dry needling the amount of migraines have reduced significantly. Now, I only might have one migraine per week. Laura understood what I was going through and gave me the right treatment. She really cares about her patients.Dry needling has improved the quality of my life. I would highly recommend dry needling for anyone suffering from migraines.”  - Maria

Migraines can be one of the most debilitating conditions. These can come with or without aura which are temporary visual or other disturbances that typically strike before other migraine symptoms. Usually with migraines, people experience sensitivity to light, sound and changes of position. This is typically accompanied with throbbing or pulsing on one side of the head. These can be caused by many reasons.

Tension headaches are more of a steady ache and are typically less debilitating than a migraine. These are often preceded by stress, poor posture, depression, head injury or anxiety. This is due to the neck and scalp muscles becoming too tense and contracted.

Physical therapy can improve this tension and relieve stress to these structures. Postural education is also used in order to decrease the recurrence of this tightness. Our therapists can educate you on the proper ways to relieve stress, improve work environment, sleep environment and incorporate positive movements into your daily routine. Because all causes of headaches are not musculoskeletal, our therapist will be able to assess and determine whether the cause is something that we can improve, and if not, provide a referral to a physician or specialist that will be able to assist.
